TOCCI fast tracks 20k sf of Behavioral Health Space for Cambridge Health Alliance

In just over 6 months TOCCI completed an interior fit out for Cambridge Health Alliance’s (CHA) Malden Care Center.  Working under a compressed schedule, the bright and revitalized space features a dramatic 40 ft x 12 ft skylight that floods a once dark interior hallway with ample natural light. A crane deftly replaced a temporary roof with steel beams then set the skylight in place.

CHA tasked TOCCI and New England Medical Design, Inc. (NEMD) with delivering more than 20,000 sf for adult and pediatric out-patient behavioral health services. TOCCI and NEMD’s experience in Greater Boston’s healthcare facilities gave the team foresight to tackle long-lead time items, set and meet project milestones, and keep construction moving without disrupting CHA’s ongoing operations. Onsite, teams and trades often performed off-hours work, sometimes around the clock, to meet the vigorous schedule and ensure continuity of care for staff and patients within the highly trafficked care center.

Behavioral health spaces are critical to meet the demands of today’s mental health crisis,” says Wayne Arruda, head of TOCCI’s Healthcare Division. “In many cases, these areas can’t be built fast enough to serve patients. TOCCI is proud to deliver this space to Cambridge Health Alliance in record time, fulfilling our promise to the CHA team and stakeholders. We genuinely value the partnership forged with NEMD and the dedication of our trade partners – all essential to successfully execute this project.

The space, previously an underutilized storage area,  now features an expansive reception space, group and meeting rooms as well as offices. Vibrant paint colors and intricate patterned flooring, capture CHA’s positive and progressive approach.
