VDC Process Improvement

The Virtual Design + Construction Team: A tech-savvy group that’s never satisfied with the status quo.

VDC is always looking to optimize and control our workflows – there’s always room for improvement.

We meet bi-weekly for an hour to evaluate one of our processes. Topics range from MEP coordination, constructability review and documentation, Revit standards, wood construction, etc. We explore every facet of VDC to develop best practices and standards. This deep dive results in a catalog of workflow charts, checklists, and informative guides the VDC can references to standardize our processes.

In our hour, the VDC group maps the current workflow, and explores areas of improvement. We create a visual display of each process, allowing us to find opportunities for streamlining. We discuss our experiences, new ideas, and constantly challenge ourselves.

The past few meetings revolved around laser scanning since we have several scan projects in our queue. We identified best practices for transferring and processing scans, and identified first steps for any laser scanning project after capturing a space. The image below displays our internal processing of transferring scans to our local drive. After our meetings, one of us develops the document based on the process discussed.
