Team gets together for Integrated Project Execution Plan

Last week, the full team for the Peter W. Rodino Federal Office Building Modernization got together for the Integrated Project Execution Plan meeting in New York City (this was fondly abbreviated as iPEP—yes, like a cheery Apple product). Representatives of the full team included:

• GSA (Client)
• Bovis Lend Lease (Construction Manager)
• Dattner Architects (Bridging Architect)
• Tocci/Driscoll (Design Builder)
• KlingStubbins (Architect/Engineer of Record)

Rodino is a complex project, coupling abatement and renovation of a fully occupied building with the addition of a modern glass overclad system—all aiming towards results like a 30% reduction in energy performance. The meeting was held to openly discuss the project status, as well as protocols and concerns. The team also developed future processes to better manage project risk and help the team operate more smoothly. After the transparent discussion and work session, team members walked away with a renewed sense of passion for the project.

While in New York, the Tocci/Driscoll team was able to take in a few sites during the off hours, including the World Trade Center construction and the US Customs House. An interesting side note: the Rotunda dome and grand staircase of the US Custom House were designed by Raphael Guastavino—the same architect that designed Tocci’s home office building in Woburn, MA!
