John Tocci, CEO of Tocci Building Companies, and Laura Handler, Building Information Modeler, taught a BIM101 class to 30 AGC members. The class was part of the AGC of Massachusetts — Young Contractors Council Technical Series.

John Tocci reviewed basic and intermediate BIM concepts, and Laura Handler led a hands-on demonstration of NavisWorks JetStream. AGC of Massachusetts hopes to schedule more BIM-focused classes in the coming months.

During the current initial stages of construction, the Capitol Cove VDC team is using the model to provide information to the field staff.

To date, concrete quantities have been extracted from the model; calculations have been accurate to the 0.1 yd3, having the potential to drastically reduce waste.

VDC Process Update

The Tocci VDC group continues its implementation of Virtual Construction by utilizing models in the field.

The group plans to provide both material quantities and 3D views of upcoming work to field staff. It is anticipated that this information will reduce on site waste and prevent field issues.

This process will be utilized on upcoming projects, with current efforts being focused on Capitol Cove and the Starwood hotels.
