Tocci has a hands-on internship program.

Katie Colombo: I think it’s safe to say that I have three babies – my three year old, my nine month old, and shared custody of Tocci’s Intern Program. As important as it is for us to teach our children to become humble, bright individuals eager for the next opportunity, we must also carry this approach through when onboarding young adults into today’s working world. We can make this possible through proper teaching, not just by-the-books teaching, but through teamwork, self-motivation, and striving for improvement. Tocci’s training offers new interns orientation to company values, hands-on training in industry skills, and daily collaboration with dedicated professionals.

Throughout the semester, our interns develop both industry and interpersonal skills as they receive regular feedback through progress evaluations completed by direct supervisors. Additionally, interns complete self-evaluations throughout the semester, letting us know how we are doing as we teach them; giving us the appropriate opportunity for growth, as well. We call on our interns to be active and involved members of our team, attending lunch and learns, participating in Company Life events, and even cooking breakfasts.

In the past Tocci interns joined our volunteer days at Habitat for Humanity, Cradles to Crayons, and Mission of Deeds. We invite them to participate in committees and get a true picture of full time employment in a construction management firm.

Tocci’s internship program starts with recruiting at college campuses that have strong Construction Management/Civil Engineering majors. We are looking for students who want to learn about the AEC industry and have a head for the business of construction. A drive to plunge into all facets of the building process combined with the humility to learn from the ground up makes a terrific intern, no matter the department they join.

Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.
