A hot topic over the past number of years has been mixed-use projects.

There is another term emerging in tandem with it “Transit-Oriented Developments” (TOD). These are compact mixed-use projects built within a short distance of transit stations. This a very compelling type of housing for renters/home buyers who are looking for places to live that offer all amenities and provide an easy commute to work via public transportation. This close proximity to transportation has always been a selling point for families looking to buy a home in the suburbs and ultimately choose towns with commuter rail stations.

These types of developments have many benefits in addition to ease of access to public transit. Developing these types of projects near transit stations revitalizes the communities surrounding them bringing more people to the area to live or to visit. Further outside the city TODs are built upon vacant lots and underutilized space bringing life to that area.

Brookside Square mixed-use development is located in West Concord, MA, a suburb approximately, 20 miles outside of the City of Boston. Within walking distance to the Commuter rail, Brookside Square offers the benefits of living in the suburbs: space and some quiet, while also providing the option to quickly commute into the City.

The Residences at 3 Journal Square mixed-use development in Jersey City, NJ will provide 240 upscale apartments within close proximity to the PATH that travels directly into Manhattan, NY. Residences of 3 Journal Square have easy access to the city for work or site seeing. The project is expected to contribute to the revitalization of Jersey City.

Homewood Suites Brookline is another ongoing project being built by Tocci that is located adjacent to public transit. Visitors of the hotel have the option to leave their car in the parking garage and hop on the Green line into Boston or take a bus from several spots in the neighborhood. Brookline offers a great alternative to staying in the heart of Boston and provides easy access to downtown Boston activities.
