Woburn, MA (September, 2021) Tocci Building Corporation (TOCCI), a Boston-area construction manager and recognized leader in virtual design and construction solutions, announced today the promotions of Valentino Joseph (VJ) Tocci to the Executive Committee and Dan Arenz to Project Manager (PM).
VJ brings over 30 years of construction and restoration experience to his executive role. He is skilled in helping owner, designer, and construction teams find creative solutions while managing budget and schedules. He has genuine admiration for the architects and crafts who preserve rich tradition through skilled rendering and execution.
In his new role as a member of the executive team, VJ Tocci will assist in the strategy and development of diverse business ventures to achieve corporate goals. Utilizing his relational skills and extensive knowledge of the greater Boston building community, VJ will add real estate development to his current role.
Since joining Tocci in 2009, he has held roles in operations as well as business development. VJ supports all phases of construction, acting as both a project executive and Director of Procurement and Subcontractor Relations. VJ’s passion for restoration and deep knowledge of adaptive reuse makes him a key resource for Tocci’s historic conversion projects. He is currently overseeing close-out of the Courthouse Lofts in Worcester, the challenging yet magnificent conversion of a vacant courthouse into 118 residential units. Earlier in his tenure he worked on the residential conversion of Abbot Mills and Monarch Lofts and the office conversion of the Guastavino Tile Factory to Tocci’s headquarters.
“Coming into the business as a kid, my father always made life twice as hard for me since I was an insider, to show everyone that he played no favorites. I never wanted to carry on that practice, but the truth is… I did. VJ earned this a long time ago. We are glad to welcome his talent and wisdom to our executive team,” said John Tocci, CEO.
VJ received his BS in Civil Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute and his Masters of Architectural Studies/ Historic Preservation from the University of Texas. He is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Historic New England.
Dan Arenz joined Tocci as an estimating co-op in 2014 and later transitioned to the operations team, gaining experience as an APM on multiple multifamily projects throughout Greater Boston. His clear communication, contract management skills, and industry experience make him a key member at Tocci.
Dan is now responsible for meeting project objectives, including budget, schedule, and quality. He partners closely with project superintendent, the preconstruction Team, and VDC modelers to mitigate risks and smoothly deliver projects. With an ability to establish positive relationships with clients, architects, and subcontractors, Dan has proven himself to be an exceptionally strong and unifying team player.
As Jim Boucher, Director of Operations, says about Dan, he’s a hard worker:
“Dan has proven his ability to think like a PM and understand and execute PM responsibilities. These include developing detailed scopes of work, reviewing contract documents for constructability, troubleshooting/foreseeing issues, managing budgets, and much more. He recently participated on the PMP program to further enhance his career in the PM world. We are pleased to see his accomplishments and see the growth within both him and Tocci!”
Marvin Lahoud, Tocci’s general manager, noted that Dan is young to be promoted to PM, but he has earned the title through his hunger to understand all facets of running a construction project, including the financials, which often can be difficult to master.
Dan credits much of his success to a hands-on approach, where he took the opportunity early in his career at Tocci to execute expanded duties under other PMs, and personally, where he conducted a renovation of his home. He is currently on-site at Kendall East, a mixed-use development in Cambridge, and holds a BS in Construction Management from Wentworth Institute of Technology. He is a regular supporter of the DJ Henry Dream Fund.
