The Tocci headquarters in Woburn Massachusetts is housed in the historic Guastavino Tile Factory. The Guastavino Tile Company, run by father/son team Raphael Guastavino y Moreno and Raphael Guastavino y Esposito in the late 1800s and early 1900s, manufactured ceramic tiles and constructed distinctive vaulted ceilings, spiral staircases, illustrated domes and decorative course-ways. These unique tiles grace over 1,000 buildings on the U.S National Historic Register including the ceiling at Ellis Island, the Oyster Bar in NYC, the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in NYC and the Boston Public Library. When Tocci bought the building in 2000 it had seen decades of neglect and fire damage. Tocci renovated it and restored the original lobby with signature Guastavino tiles as well as updating the building, adding contemporary uses of exposed steel, concrete, wood and glass. |
