Our History

Tocci Building Companies are third generation successors of John Tocci & Sons, a general contracting business founded in 1922 by Giovanni Tocci. Giovanni, a skilled mason, emigrated from Italy to Newton, MA, in 1917. He shortly struck out on his own as a general contractor providing multi-trade expertise for the construction of single family homes and small commercial projects. In the mid 1950s his son, Valentino Tocci, assumed control of the firm. Val, an expert mason and degreed accountant, grew the company into a respected medium sized concern specializing in public construction such as schools, libraries and public housing and facilities. John L. Tocci, Val’s son and current CEO, accepted the helm 1985. John, widely recognized as an early adopter of new delivery formats and technological advancements, has grown the company to a $150M firm servicing private commercial, institutional and residential owners and developers.

Walking the delicate line between deference for tradition and thirst for progress is a Tocci family trait that permeates company culture. The firm, spiritually rooted by those hardy immigrant values hard work and fair service, is driven by that distinctive American trait – the tenacious pursuit of a better way of doing business. Today Tocci is committed to advancing the science of building delivery through Building Information Modeling, sustainable design and lean construction. The creation of beautiful buildings that construct with ease is our singular quest.
