The act of working together, specifically on a project that requires joint intellectual effort.

The industry seems to be treating collaboration as a trendy buzzword (it’s the must have for this season). In reality, construction projects have been requiring the project team to work together since before the Pyramids. We, as an industry, have been simply ignoring the needs of our projects.

At Tocci, we believe that collaboration means that we all work for the project. Everyone (that’s right – even you, owners & developers!) must respond to the needs of the project.

Although collaboration doesn’t require Virtual Design and Construction, we have found that it facilitates collaboration. When we share a Building Information Model with one or more of our teammates, we are able to use the model as a central point of communication.

Ideally, the entire team would contribute to and extract information from the model.

We understand that the industry isn’t fully BIM-enabled. We have developed workflow, standards and work-arounds so the project can benefit from Virtual Design and Construction, even when one or more team members are unable to utilize a Building Information Model.
