Anniversary Story
A year and a week ago today, I walked up the stairs of Tocci for the first time. I sat in the lobby and waited to interview with Joe Ferolito. The phone interview had been a tad bit disappointing. Joe had noted my vast professional history as good, but he really needed someone who would stick around. Well needless to say, he had no idea how important it was for me to accomplish just that! I began the fight for my position at that moment, and convinced Joe to meet with me. And that is how it all started. I remember that morning vividly. The excitement of how close the building was to home—how awesome! The beauty of the building—my God are you kidding me! Going up the stairs and seeing the interior and the use of the space—coming from an architectural background it was wow! And then walking up to the receptionist area—breathtaking! Now I am just thinking to myself “SHUT UP!” while at the same time keeping my composure. “I have to focus on meeting Joe and seeing what he has to offer.” I did have that third interview in Watertown tomorrow for a sweet job with awesome benefits—no worries. As I am waiting for Joe I take a peek around and notice that Tocci had done work back home; the Lee [MA] Outlets—how cool! I couldn't wait to tell everyone when I got home! Finally Joe comes around the corner, and what a shocker, he wasn't what I had expected at all. Needless to say he and I agreed on one thing right away, that this was the position for me. Mind you, I wasn't thoroughly convinced (how ironic that now I was the one who needed convincing). But I agreed to come in and meet with Paula for some training anyway. Two days with Paula, a few phone calls with Joe doing what he does best, and the rest, as they say is history. On 3.27.06 I signed on officially to Tocci!!! In my vast professional experience, this job has been the best of all the opportunities I have had. There are so many positives to it and Joe has not only been a great manager, but a wonderful mentor and teacher to me. I hope that his efforts have shown through in what I have learned in Estimating. I look forward to becoming a seasoned Estimator like Joe and also like Jack. And I look forward to doing so here at Tocci. I am thankful for this wonderful opportunity and a wonderful first year anniversary! ~Raquel |
