Working From Home: A Permanent Solution?

Working From Home: A Permanent Solution?

In news regarding the everlasting COVID-19 pandemic, major companies have begun to announce extended work from home orders for their employees until at least 2021. This list of companies remains small, but is likely to rise in the coming months, especially as we await vaccine production.
Google is on this list after announcing that their employees will be working from home for at least another year, and Twitter has taken a larger leap by informing employees whose jobs don’t require a physical presence that they can work remotely “forever”. Along that same vein, the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) says about 17% of HR leaders in almost 2,500 companies reported that their organizations will move to permanent work-from-home policies in the near future. Now, what does all of this news mean for Tocci?

Once the Governor re-opened office spaces at limited capacity, Tocci’s HR department and COVID-19 Task Force carefully developed and implemented a staggered back-to-office schedule. The staggered schedule promotes social distancing and aims to help employees feel more comfortable in their transition back to the office. Employees alternate which days they are in the office and at home, thus reducing unnecessary exposure between coworkers. After exploring various resources and tech-tips throughout the 2+ months the team spent at home, Tocci staff has become proficient at connecting and collaborating virtually via Microsoft Teams, which will remain an incredibly beneficial skill as the company moves forward.

While the office certainly doesn’t buzz the way it did pre-COVID, the COVID-19 Task Force has strived to make this a safe, comfortable, and seamless transition for everyone. Social distancing, wearing a mask when leaving one’s desk, sanitizing equipment, and limiting room capacities are a few updated regulations and priorities in making the office a safe environment for everyone.
